Political Philosophy Is The Issue Of Political Obligation

One of the central issues in political philosophy is the issue of political obligation. This concerns the presence, the nature and especially the foundation of a particular relationship between government and its citizens. Philosophical Anarchism challenges this relationship. In this endeavor it differs from the position of Political Anarchism, which has as its main goal not only the moral devaluation but also the decline of the state. Conversely, the main method of philosophical anarchism is the rejection of theories that support the political task without necessarily to adopt the position that the state is inevitably evil and it must be abolished. On the one hand, we find our lives to be controlled by political institutions and we take this power for granted. On the other, usually in our lives we want to decide ourselves about major issues that affect us, to be able to make choices and act freely, without the others to decide for us. Then why in the case of the state we consider the control and authority of others over us for granted? The answer is that the states were created in order to serve their citizens. They are good for our lives, destined to make easier and fair the coexistence between us. The states form a scheme that is created by man himself to ameliorate his life. Therefore, they are his choice, a product of the very freedom of man, of his will to govern himself. But this seems to give birth to a paradox; man decided to govern himself because he does not want to be governed. Substantially the paradox is not a paradox. It is only apparently paradoxical. This is because the restrictions are not incompatible with freedom when they derive from it.
